St. Theresa of the Child Jesus is a Roman Catholic parish church in Kassel - Niederzwehren , which belongs to the diocese of Fulda . The church building is located on Heinrich-Schütz-Allee.

history

The parish of St. Theresa is one of the 14 Catholic parishes in the north Hessian city of Kassel, where the Catholics live in the diaspora . She belongs to the pastoral association "Blessed Adolph Kolping" in Kassel-Süd– Baunatal , which also includes the Kassel parishes Herz Jesu and St. Nikolaus von Flüe and the surrounding parish Christ the Redeemer in Baunatal.

The church is under the patronage of St. Therese of Lisieux , the so-called "little St. Theresa", who, as a nun in the Order of the Discalced Carmelites , chose the religious name " Thérèse de l'enfant Jesus " (Therese of the Child Jesus ). It was founded in 1925 by Pius XI. canonized and made a Doctor of the Church by Pope John Paul II in 1997 ; The Catholic Church celebrates its feast day on October 1st.

architecture

The church was built in 1970 according to the plans of the Kassel architect Josef Bieling (1919–1981). It is a striking rotunda . The high outer wall surfaces are clad with sandstone .
