St. Urban

The listed Evangelical Lutheran village church of St. Urban is located in the Mendhausen district of the small town of Römhild in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

history

Mendhausen already had an independent parish in 1405 . Accordingly, there was a village church earlier . It was first mentioned in a document in 1429.

The nave of the church was rebuilt from 1847 to 1850. Apart from the date it was first mentioned, nothing is known about the predecessor. The interior has a field ceiling with Christian symbols . The pulpit and the font from 1704 are neo-Gothic .

The organ was created in 1709 by Nicolaus Seeber from Römhild. The altar from 1725/26 stands in the choir with its colored ribbed vaults and pointed arched leaded glass windows .

Since the bell cage and bells were in poor condition, the municipality bought three new bronze bells in 2001.
