The church

The Protestant village church of St. Ursula is located in the municipality of Wehnde in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .

history

The village church of St. Ursula was first mentioned in 1294 when Archbishop Gerhard von Mainz of the Teistungenburg monastery incorporated this church and the church of Teistungen . On August 17, 1305, there was another document mentioning the sale of goods .

History of the church

The manor owner Hans-Ernst von Wintzingerode commissioned the construction of the church with other people. The year of construction is carved over the door arch with the year 1670. It was built and furnished in the baroque style. There are no more documents from this time. At that time the church had two bells , a clock tower and a small organ .

With invoices and correspondence from 1800, minor maintenance measures are proven. The church constitution at that time shows that the von Wintzingerode family lived on the estate, who had their own " chair " in the church , and that the deceased family members were to be buried in the church crypt. The stairs and the crypt were later walled up.

Correspondence from 1816 shows bells and an organ as well as repairs. In 1843 the last will of King Friedrich Wilhelm III. mounted under a frame on the altar . In 1898 a tower clock was installed.

Interior

The baroque altar was erected in 1671/1672 in the colors red and black. The figure of the apostle Paul is on the right and Peter on the left . There is Christian jewelry above it. The altar painting dates from 1694. The baptismal angel is to the left of the altar. A life-size crucifix adorns the church. The ceiling painting with Christian motifs above the stalls and the galleries shows the crucifixion .

The pulpit with sound cover looks like a goblet without a foot and is on a pedestal with four evangelists . A member of the parish made the lectern attached to the altar and pulpit around 1900 and donated it.

The poor box made of solid wood is probably about as old as the church.

In 1850, the organ builder Carl Heyder installed a new organ , which, however, had to be extensively repaired as early as 1859.
