The Protestant parish church of St. Veit is a Gothic hall church in Ottensoos in the Middle Franconian district of Nürnberger Land . It belongs to the Protestant parish of Ottensoos in the Hersbruck deanery of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria .

History and architecture

The core of the choir tower dates from the 13th century, the rest of the structure was built around 1450/1470. A ship was added to the north around 1521. The gallery was built in 1738, the stairs at the northwest corner in 1738/1739. The elevated church, like a fortified church, dominates the whole village.

The simple exterior is characterized by a uniform roof over the four naves and the tower with a high eight-sided pointed helmet. A small polygonal stair tower with half-timbered floor and helmet was added to the sacristy. The four-aisled hall with five bays, the northwest corner of which is sloping, is connected to the cross-rib vaulted choir. The vault rests on twelve slender round pillars. The ships are unequal in width, the later added northern ship is set off by belt arches. The inside is a surprisingly light and spacious hall.

In the west there is a gallery over cross vaults, in the north aisle a gallery over a flat ceiling. The gallery parapet was stuccoed in 1738 with foliage and ribbon work .

Furnishing

The high altar was created by Balthasar Götz in 1798. A carved figure with the Lamentation from the beginning of the 16th century is inserted in the central niche. The southern side altar is of Nuremberg origin from around 1520. In the shrine it shows a Maria with a child in a halo under flat pointed arches, scenes from the childhood of Jesus Christ are depicted on the wings. On the inactive wings, scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary in the manner of Hans von Kulmbach can be seen.

The sacraments house , richly decorated with pinnacles, dates back to 1522 and is designed in the style of Veit Wirsberger. A rustic sacrament niche was built after the middle of the 15th century. The pulpit is decorated with late Gothic tracery fields.

Also to be mentioned are the wooden figures of St. Vitus, flanked by two standing angels from around 1500. A crucifixion group from the early 16th century was put together in 1903. From the late Gothic high altar of the church from around 1500 come a linden wood figure of St. Vitus and two heavily supplemented relief panels. Two Nuremberg glass paintings from the beginning of the 16th century have been preserved in the choir . In the south aisle there is an enthroned Christ from the late 13th century. Two marble grave slabs in bas-relief date from the mid-16th century.

The organ is a work by Johannes Strebel from 1903 with 13 stops on two manuals and pedal using the prospectus of an organ by Elias Hößler from 1693.
