The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Vigilius is a Gothic hall church in the district of Kirchdorf am Haunpold von Bruckmühl in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim . It belongs to the Kirchdorf parish in the Heufeld-Weihenlinden parish in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

History and architecture

The first wooden church was built in Kirchdorf around 1260. It was consecrated in 1258 and Bishop Egno of Trient declared Kirchdorf a parish, belonging to the Rott am Inn monastery . In the 15th century, with the exception of the tower, the church was destroyed by fire.

The present church was built in 1470 by Hans Holnstainer, redesigned in 1697 and given a baroque interior and regotidized in 1875, whereby the vault ribs were renewed. In 1927 the church was extended with galleries. The church is a hall building with six bays with a slightly drawn-in choir with a three-sided end and a west tower with a pointed helmet. The rib vaults are based on wall templates.

Furnishing

The neo-Gothic altars with figures and the pulpit were created during the regotization in 1875. On the high altar, Bishop Vigilius is depicted between the weather saints John and Paul from around 1500, on the southern side altar there are carved figures of Saints Sigismund and Nicholas from the same period. All these figures come from the workshop of Erasmus Grasser . An octagonal font made of red marble comes from the late Gothic period. A large figural tombstone for the master builder Hans Holnsteiner († 1483) was placed on the north wall of the nave. The organ is a work by Michael Weise from 1927 with 18 stops on two manuals and a pedal and was renewed in September 2008. On the southern outer wall there is a grave slab for Martin Hübl († 1517) and his son Oswald († 1516). On the north wall of the nave there is a large figural knight's grave for Hans Holnstainer († 1483).
