history

The year of construction of the village church is not known, but the first documents about a repair, during which the church tower was also erected, date from the years 1619 to 1620. In 1608 three bells were cast for the church in Erfurt . The tower clock was added in 1664 . In 1719 one wrote of a tower renovation.

On August 6, 1905, lightning damaged the church tower and parts of the church. After an appraisal and construction plans by the Wankel church building council, the congregation decided on November 6, 1905 to rebuild their church. As early as September 29, 1907, the church could be consecrated with a service .

The font and the pulpit from the late baroque era have been preserved . The interior of the church was painted. New stained glass windows were installed. The outer facade is provided with structural details of the neo-baroque . The pneumatic organ was built in 1907 by Poppe from Schleiz . It received an electric blower in 1928. Two of the three bells were melted down during World War II and replaced by two steel bells in 1955.
