The Evangelical Church of St. Wolfgang is a late Gothic hall church in Puschendorf in the Middle Franconian district of Fürth . It belongs to the parish of St. Wolfgang in the Fürth dean's office in the Nuremberg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria .

History and architecture

In 1469 the area of the former hunting lodge of the patrician family Haller from Nuremberg was acquired by the Carthusian monastery Maria Zell in Nuremberg for the construction of the church. This pilgrimage church was on the Wolfgang pilgrimage route from Cologne to Regensburg. It was consecrated on June 15, 1491.

The late Gothic building in ashlar masonry made of sandstone was erected in the years 1489–1491 by Hermann Winkler and Michael Pernolt on the castle stables , which were fortified by a wall and moat . The late Gothic hall church consists of the nave with a basket-arched, wooden barrel vault and a retracted choir with five-eighth end with net vault and tracery windows . The surrounding galleries in the nave were built in around 1700. The simple exterior is accentuated by a roof turret with hood and clock on the nave roof .

Furnishing

The rich late Gothic furnishings include, among other things, the important winged altar from around 1500 by the master of the Puschendorfer altar, who received his emergency name from this altar . In the shrine he shows Our Lady, Saints Wolfgang and John the Baptist ; other saints are depicted on the wings in relief or painting in tempera or oil painting on the wings and the back of the shrine. In conversation Enge is of a carved representation of the mercy seat to see.

The heavily covered plague altar in the north aisle from around 1500 shows the saints Rochus and Sebastian in the shrine ; the predella belongs to the 18th century. The southern side altar is the Marian altar and was assembled from parts that did not originally belong together. Our Lady comes from the years 1420–1440, the smaller relief figures of the apostles were created after 1400, and the paintings were greatly expanded. The pulpit was probably built in 1778. The stalls in the choir have been preserved from the time it was built.

In the choir windows there are 23 cabinet windows, some of which are very valuable, from the period around 1500–1550. A crucifix of Nuremberg origin dates back to around 1500. An interesting clay relief of St. Anna Selbdritt from around 1500 comes from the Westphalian Carthusian monastery in Wederen.
