St John's House

St John's House is a former residential building in the Scottish city of St Andrews in the Fife Council Area . In 1959 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

St John's House was built in the 16th and possibly 17th centuries. It was revised in the course of the 18th century. On the basis of a remaining lintel, it can be understood that, among other things, an open fireplace on the rear wall was significantly reduced in size. A smaller, cast iron chimney was installed there. A hatter is believed to have lived in St John's House over the centuries. Later there was a hairdressing salon. In the early 1990s, the University of St Andrews had the building restored. She set up offices for the Fife Archaeological Index there.
