The Weidenstieg Business School was a vocational school in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel . The school consisted of a business school and a vocational school for bankers . At the business school, the students were able to achieve the general high school diploma with a focus on economics. The vocational school was a dual partner in vocational training.

history

The school was founded in 1937 as a vocational school for prospective bankers, insurance clerks , transport clerks and industrial clerks. In the summer of 1938 the school moved into its main building on Weidenstieg in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel. After a division over the Hamburg city area during the Second World War, the school returned to its main building in 1952. A business school and other apprenticeships were added. In 1953, the business high school that still exists today was founded as the “Business High School on Weidenstieg”. After the redistribution of the vocational schools in Hamburg, only the prospective bankers and business school students remained at the school. The school was given its current name “Weidenstieg Commercial High School”. In 1982, the vocational school for bankers was expanded to include the branch in Schwenckestrasse in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel. In 2006, the business school moved into a building on Telemannstrasse in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel, approx. 250 meters from the Schwenckestrasse branch.

In 2012, the school celebrated its 75th anniversary with a ceremony and published a commemorative publication.

In March 2015 the school moved to a new building in the St. Pauli district. At the beginning of the 2015/2016 school year, it merged with the St. Pauli Business School and the State Commercial School with Kieler Straße Business School to form the newly opened vocational school for banking, insurance and law with St. Pauli vocational high school (BS11) in Budapester Strasse .

Buildings and equipment

Both buildings formerly used by the school in Eimsbüttel could be reached via the Osterstraße subway station on the U2 line . In the building of the commercial high school there was a cafeteria operated by the Winterhude workshops. In good weather, the inner courtyard, the so-called school garden, was open to the students. The lessons could be flexibly distributed to group and silent work rooms. There were specialist rooms for biology, chemistry, data processing, art, music and performing games. The pupils were able to use the school's own notebooks for teaching projects. There were media trolleys on each floor, which were equipped with a projector, notebook with WiFi connection and DVD player. Electronic whiteboards enabled interactive teaching.

School life at the commercial high school

Most of the lessons took place in a fixed class group. The profile subject of the upper school was economics, so that the students acquired in-depth basic knowledge in business administration and economics . The school offered bilingual classes for these subjects in grades 12 and 13 . Schoolchildren who decided to do this passed their Abitur exams in the subjects of business administration and economics in English. The knowledge acquired here was certified when graduating from high school.

Economic relationships were deepened through excursions, invitations from experts and practical relevance. Most of the teachers were bankers or insurance clerks and not only taught in the commercial high school, but also in the affiliated vocational school for bankers.

The students should be supported in their professional and personal development through coaching discussions . In addition, a learning coach could be asked for support upon request. Math coaching was also possible in the 11th grade. The students were able to get further support via a tutoring exchange. A winter sports project took place in the twelfth grade. This led to the Alpbachtal in Tyrol. In addition, the students had the opportunity to take part in other project trips. These led to Barcelona, Berlin, Prague and Ireland. Project weeks took place in the twelfth grade, during which not only project trips but also projects related to Hamburg were offered. Parts of the physical education took place in the nearby fitness studio "Kaifu-Lodge". A limited number of students were able to take advantage of an open sports offer in the Kaifu Lodge on Friday afternoon.

The vocational school was attended by the trainees to become bank clerks in the Hamburg metropolitan region .

The training period was two, two and a half or three years, depending on the training contract with the training bank. Accordingly, the students completed four, five or six vocational school blocks. The students gained in-depth knowledge of banking, general economics, society, accounting and English. As a rule, they were able to set their own focus during their time at vocational school. Here the school offered, among other things, the elective areas of insurance, finance and corporate management.

In 2010 the school won the Karlsruhe City School Prize for the feedback concept . The practical relevance was ensured through simulation games , a strong affinity for day-to-day business and excursions to the Frankfurt financial center.
