State Prize for Architecture and Sustainability

The State Prize for Architecture and Sustainability is one of the state prizes of the Republic of Austria and has been held as a competition by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management since 2006.

The categories are "new construction", "renovation" and "export", that is, projects that have been implemented abroad. From the submissions, a jury will first select ten nominations and from these four award winners and one special award winner. The architectural quality and the quality in terms of sustainability of construction projects are to be recognized.

2006

The winners of the 1st competition were in the new building category

  • Ludesch community center in Vorarlberg
  • Klaus-Weiler-Fraxern secondary school in Vorarlberg

in the renovation category

  • Drexel and Weiss production and administration house in Wolfurt in Vorarlberg
  • Makartstrasse residential complex in Linz in Upper Austria

in the innovation category

  • S-House office and exhibition building in Böheimkirchen in Lower Austria

2010

At the 2nd competition, the jury with chairman Roland Gnaiger nominated 10 projects.

  • General special school 6 in Linz in Upper Austria
  • ECO²BUILDING demonstration building EINE WELT HANDEL AG in Niklasdorf in Styria
  • Prize winner element production hall Obermayr wood structures in Schwanenstadt in Upper Austria
  • Freihof Sulz in Sulz in Vorarlberg
  • Raggal parish hall in Vorarlberg
  • Winner of the St. Gerold Community Center in Vorarlberg
  • Winner of the passive housing complex Samer Mösl in Salzburg
  • Winner of the Mauth primary school in Wels in Upper Austria
  • Rom. Catholic parish Wels - St. Francis in Wels in Upper Austria
  • Fussenau residential complex in Dornbirn in Vorarlberg

The HIT ETH Zurich research and service building in Switzerland received the special award in the export category .

2013

99 building objects were submitted in the third competition. The jury with chairman Roland Gnaiger nominated nine projects.

  • Single-family house in Hard in Vorarlberg
  • Winner of the Altmünster Agricultural Education Center in Upper Austria
  • Winner of special school 4 in Linz in Upper Austria
  • Winner of the Messequartier residential complex in Graz in Styria
  • Winner of Lower Austria House in Krems an der Donau
  • ÖAD guest house in Vienna
  • Prize winner residential building U 31 in Vienna with Querkraft Architects
  • Housing complex on Mühlgrund in Vienna

2014

74 building objects were entered in the 4th competition. The five winners were:

  • Schachinger Logistik operating building in Hörsching (Upper Austria), Poppe Prehal Architects
  • Justice Center Korneuburg (Lower Austria), ARGE Dieter Mathoi Architects & DIN A4 Architektur ZT GmbH
  • Residential house renovation in Vienna Währing , bogenfeld architektur
  • Residential building "Wohnprojekt Wien" in Vienna-Leopoldstadt, einszueins architecture
