Poppe Prehal Architects

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Poppe Prehal Architects from Steyr (Austria) were founded in 2000 by Helmut Poppe and Andreas Prehal. The founders of the office completed their architecture studies at the University of Artistic and Industrial Design in Linz (Andreas Prehal and Helmut Poppe), at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (Helmut Poppe) and at the Technical University of Vienna (Helmut Poppe, dissertation).

Well-known projects

The plus-energy wholesale market ZERO1 of the Metro Germany group planned by Poppe Prehal Architekten was certified in February 2020 as the first and to date only newly built building in the German-speaking area (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) with the international standard BREEAM Outstanding.

In the “House of the Future 2000” competition, Poppe Prehal Architekten presented a concept for greening architecture and urban planning in the year it was founded, and thus won the competition announced by the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology . Today the architects realize municipal buildings, commercial and industrial buildings, residential buildings as well as projects in the field of spatial planning and research.

The Schachinger LT1 project (lighthouse 1) - probably the most ecological logistics building in Europe - became internationally known, for which the architects were awarded the Austrian State Prize for Architecture and Sustainability in 2015 after the Lower Austria and Upper Austria Timber Construction Awards . Even before completion in 2013, the sustainable commercial building by Paul Blau GmbH was awarded the City of Vienna's environmental prize. Third place in the World Energy Globe Award (in which 1300 projects from 99 countries were submitted) went to Poppe Prehal Architekten in 2002 for the Nordpool Steyr commercial project. The award was presented during the World Sustainable Energy Days .
