The Lachen stadium is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Swiss city of Thun in the canton of Bern . It was the home stadium of the FC Thun football club from 1954 to 2011 .
location
Due to its location on Lake Thun in the south of the city of Thun and in front of the panorama of the Bernese Alps , it is considered one of the most beautifully situated stadiums in Europe.
history
Since opening in 1954, the stadium has had a total of 9,375 spectators, of which around 7,681 are standing. In addition to football, athletics can also be played in the stadium.
FC Thun was not allowed to play its home games of the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League in the Lachenstadion, as the facility is far from meeting the requirements of UEFA . Therefore, the games had to be relocated to Bern's Stade de Suisse . In autumn 2005, the Lachenstadion was badly affected by the Alpine floods in 2005 and completely flooded.
Record number of visitors
In the 2003/04 season, at the home game against FC Basel , the Basel team had the opportunity to win the championship title early with a win. This game attracted innumerable Basel but also a great many Thuners to the Lachenstadion. The infrastructure of the old Lachenstadion was put to the test with official 10,200 fans. Basel won the game 2-0 and a championship celebration broke out in Thun. After just 70 minutes, the people of Basel put on a polonaise around the 400 m track. After the early final whistle, the Basler fans stormed the field and demolished the lawn, the goals and everything that wasn't nailed down.
