history

The Miejski Stadium in Bielsko-Biała, a town with around 170,000 inhabitants in the Silesian Voivodeship in southern Poland , was built in 1927 and opened a little later. The Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała football club has played its home games here since the sports facility was completed . Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała was founded in 1907, but in its further development it never appeared in the upper fields of Polish football. It was not until 2011 when he was second in the first division, only behind ŁKS Łódź, and made his first promotion to the Ekstraklasa , the top division in Polish club football. As a climber managed surprisingly confidently with twelfth place, which Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała was able to achieve in the second first division season. This means that the Miejski stadium is still the venue for games in the Polish first division.

In 1978, the Miejski Stadium hosted two UEFA youth tournament matches (from 1981: U-18 European Football Championship ), in which the Soviet Union was able to secure the title after the national team of Yugoslavia 3-0 in the final in Krakow could be defeated. Host Poland ended up in third place. The Miejski stadium in Bielsko-Biała served as the venue for two group matches, and the knockout matches were all held in the Wisła stadium in Krakow.

A new football arena is currently being built on the grounds of the old stadium, according to plans by ATJ Architekci from 2008. In 2011 the building permit was granted. Resistance against the building plans was raised by residents, who feared increased traffic and noise on match days. Small changes to the plans allayed these fears. The 2011 tender had to be repeated. As in 2011, the BPBP offer was selected with a cost of 81.8 million zloty (around 20 million euros ). In August 2012, construction work could finally begin. First, the stands behind the gates in the north and south were built, followed by the west stand. The east grandstand was inaugurated in February 2015. The grandstand construction was thus completed. To finish it was missing u. a. the interior work and the work around the stadium. The new venue with two-story grandstands will offer 15,292 seats for visitors after completion. The costs rose to 135 million złoty (around 32.6 million euros) by January 2015.
