The Astra Stadium ( Romanian Stadionul Astra ) is a football stadium in the Romanian city of Ploiesti . It has space for 10,000 spectators and served as the home of the Astra Ploieşti association until September 2012.

history

The Astra Stadium in Ploieşti was built and opened in 1934. Since then, the Astra Ploieşti club has used the sports facility as a venue for home football matches. The club, founded in 1934, rose to League 1 , the first Romanian league, for the first time in 1998 and is currently playing there. The greatest success for the club is probably reaching the semi-finals in the Romanian Cup twice in 2002 and 2003. In addition, they won the championship twice in the second division. From 2008 to 2009, the stadium was also used by the CS Otopeni club during their only first division season to date, as Otopeni's home stadium has a capacity of just over a thousand spectators. Due to a stadium conflict in Bucharest , the Astra Stadium 2011 is also an option for Steaua Bucharest , Dinamo Bucharest and Rapid Bucharest , Steaua has already played here twice, they won 2-1 against Universitatea Cluj and 2-0 against FCM Târgu Mureș . Dinamo were also present at the Astra Stadium in the 1-0 win against Târgu Mureș.

Today the Astra stadium holds 10,000 spectators. After the Ilie Oană Stadium, it is the second largest stadium in the city with space for 14,350 visitors from local rivals Petrolul Ploieşti , with whom Astra Ploieşti was even merged for some years. So far, the Romanian national soccer team has played once in the Astra Stadium. As part of qualifying for the 2004 European Football Championship in Portugal , Romania played against Luxembourg on September 6, 2003 and won 4-0.
