Two identical two-storey clinker brick buildings of the Grand Ducal Jägerhof were built for the court hunters from 1852 to 1856 and 1860/61 according to plans by the court builder Hermann Willebrand with a hip roof and a risalit gable . The building manager Behncke (also: Behnke ) made the preliminary draft of the houses . The city archives are located in house no. 2 and a bank branch and service providers are in no.

The buildings were adorned with stone animal heads (e.g. deer, wild boar, roe deer) by the sculptor Heinrich Petters , some of which have been preserved. Works by Petters in Schwerin include a. the weever from around 1856 and the bust of Georg Adolph Demmler .

Behind it at the courtyard, covered by a barrack building, is the single-storey hunting arsenal , which is now a farm building . Here the things necessary for hunting were kept and the hunting nets were hung up. Two stable buildings with the dog-keeper's apartment were demolished.

The city archive of the state capital Schwerin is located in house number 2. Documents, official books, files, historically valuable documents, filmed newspapers and much more are archived here. It documents the activities of the council, administration and the history of Schwerin since the 15th century. It stores around 500 cards, around 2,500 building plans, historical films, around 15,000 photos and thousands of posters and brochures in collections on the history of the city and theater. Private archive material can also be archived.

The archive library comprises around 13,000 volumes. When researching, users can view the central database of the archive with a search index of key words and the finding aids, as well as use the ARIADNE online database . Archive director has currently been Dr. Bernd Kasten .

Historically, documents have been preserved since the founding of the Schwerin diocese and the city of Schwerin (1160), which were stored in the archive in the town hall. In the great city fire in 1531, the city book, registers, foundations, contracts and documents were destroyed. Further fires and improper administration led to losses in the archive material that was stored in the warehouse in the pillar building on the market in the 20th century from 1951 and 1956 to 1991 .
