The Stadtbad Auf der Bleiche is a preserved historical Stadtbad in the Wuppertal district of Heckinghausen . The building is registered as a monument in the list of monuments of the city of Wuppertal.

The building consisted of two swimming pools, separated by sex, and an entrance area in front of it. Besides the Stadtbad Kleine Flurstraße , it is the only public indoor swimming pool in the city that was built before the war and is still preserved today.

history

The building was built in 1908 by the city master builder Paul Eduard Freygang with the participation of city building officer Carl Winchenbach and the architect Julius Dicke . During the Second World War in 1943, the roof, the barrel vault and the interior of the former men's pool in the north wing were destroyed. The building wing was only temporarily roofed over. The ladies' pool had changed little over time and was used until June 30, 1992. Originally the ladies' pool was smaller and less magnificent than the men's pool.

At the end of the 1980s, the tub rooms in the Herrenbad were converted into a multi-purpose hall and made available to local gymnastics clubs. The renovation of the former men's pool appeared to be too expensive, and later the operation of the former women's pool also had to be closed.

On July 22, 1992, it was recognized as a monument. In 1997 the building was converted into an old people's home of the Lazarus Relief Organization, the former use as an indoor swimming pool is no longer recognizable. First of all, the two wings of the building with the ladies and gentlemen's baths were to be demolished, but it was decided to keep the facade.

Trivia
