Weißer Stein is an above-ground station of the Frankfurt U-Bahn . It is located in the Eschersheim district on underground line A and is served by lines U1 to U3 and U8. The station was opened on October 4, 1968, when the first section between Hauptwache and Nordweststadt went into operation. It is also the final stop for bus routes 63, 66 and 69.

location

The Weißer Stein stop is the northernmost of the three stations in Eschersheim and, like all other stops on the line between the Dornbusch light rail station and Heddernheim, an above-ground stop. The railway line follows from the underground station, Eschenheimer Tor, the Eschersheimer highway , which turns and at the White Stone right at the station Frankfurt-Eschersheim ends. The route continues along the Am Weißen Stein road and then crosses the Maybach Bridge to Heddernheim .

construction

The station originally only had underground entrances, which could be reached from both sides of Eschersheimer Landstrasse. Later, due to the low acceptance of the often poorly lit and polluted tunnels, level entrances were created. The platform is 100 m long and 80 cm high.

construction

After the decision was made to tunnel under the A-Line from Hauptwache to Miquelallee , the route north of the exit ramp near Humser Strasse was to run above ground in Eschersheimer Landstrasse. The Transport Planning Office drew up a detailed plan in 1964/65 and wanted to offer the light rail and road traffic convenient routes. However, the separated track of the light rail required significantly more space than was available in the alley-like Eschersheimer Landstrasse. After the city council approved the road construction on March 24, 1966, in the spring of 1966, first 275 trees were in the highway and the adjacent side streets cleared . Overall, the cross-section of the road was widened from 16 m to 30 m. The deforestation was viewed critically by the population, but was accepted without major protest due to the hoped-for improvement in traffic. When the building permit was available on December 1, 1966, the continued tram traffic should not be restricted as far as possible, which primarily restricted car traffic. The stations were filled with 100-meter platforms equipped, where four cars - trains should keep. The platforms were initially 56 cm high in order to enable mixed operation with tram vehicles . Later they were raised to 80 cm. The station's initially square paving was replaced by two-tone composite paving after frost damage. The pedestrian tunnel of the Weißer Stein stop is located below the station area and has access to the west and east side of Eschersheimer Landstrasse and to Weißer Stein square , which was expanded into a taxi and bus stop in 1988.
