Dornbusch is an above-ground station on the A route of the Frankfurt U-Bahn . It is located on the border of the Dornbusch districts with Nordend and Westend . The station was opened on October 4, 1968 with the first section of the A route from the Hauptwache to Nordweststadt , and is now served by the U1 to U3 and U8 lines of the Frankfurt subway. The subtitle Hessischer Rundfunk refers to the nearby broadcasting site.

Location and architecture

The Dornbusch station is the first stop on the above-ground section in the middle of Eschersheimer Landstrasse . The temporary ramp Humserstraße is exactly south of the station in the direction of the underground Miquel- / Adickesallee underground station . The Dornbusch station has two outer elevated platforms. In spring 2002, it was one of the first above-ground stations to be converted to a platform height of 80 centimeters above the top of the rails. Since then, the tracks at the southern end, where previously there were only accesses from the respective street sides, can be crossed at ground level. At the level of the street Am Grünhof on the border between Dornbusch and Westend or Nordend there is barrier-free ground level access. In the north, the platforms can only be reached via a spacious underground access structure. A 150 m long pedestrian tunnel leads from the platform under Eschersheimer Landstrasse to the intersection with the streets Am Dornbusch and Marbachweg in the north and connects the station with the bus routes 34 and 64 that operate there . The initially somewhat desolate underground facility was rebuilt in the 1980s The idea of Prof. Pininski was redesigned and presented in a colorful way with interesting details, but still looks a bit abandoned as there are no shops, unlike at the Hügelstrasse subway station .

criticism

Originally, the four staircases around the intersection were not only intended to serve as a new way of crossing the traffic junction - as was common in many places in Frankfurt from the 1960s to the 1980s. In contrast to other structures that were subsequently rebuilt for reasons of accessibility or supplemented with ground-level access, the tunnel is still the only way to cross Eschersheimer Landstrasse in the area of this intersection. It was not until the beginning of 2002 that the station was rebuilt in such a way that since then it has been possible to cross Eschersheimer Landstrasse at least at the southern end of the station, which is more than 250 m away. However, since the tunnel is often bypassed on level ground, the intersection is a focus of many - often fatal - accidents. The residents of the Dornbusch often refer to the urban development situation of the route as a “wall” that divides the district in two halves, and also call for level crossings and access to the station in the north .
