The city wall is like the Szczecin Gate and the Powder Tower in the monument list of Brandenburg as a monument reported.

architecture

Gartz (Oder) with city fortifications and Stettiner Tor (1761)

The city fortifications of Gartz (Oder) were built from the 13th century with boulders made of field stone and brick . There were three watchtowers inside the wall . These were the so-called "Blue Hat", a round tower and the so-called "Stork's Nest".

The city fortifications were severely damaged by the Second World War and the building policy of the GDR. Currently only parts of the city wall on the northern and western outskirts of Gartz are left. The rectangular substructure adorned with panels can still be seen from the former Blue Hat . The stork's nest, built in the 14th century, still has the substructure and an octagonal tower with a crenellated wreath and a stone cone helmet , this probably dates from the 15th century.

Szczecin Gate

Szczecin Gate

The lower part of the Szczecin Gate was built in the 13th century as one of the original four gates of the town fortifications of the town of Gartz in field stone construction with a arched passage. The gate is named after the city of Szczecin . It is the only one of the four gates that is still preserved today.

In the gate passage was a picture of Ferdinand von Schill , who lived in Gartz until 1807. In the 15th century, the originally blanket gate was extended by a three-storey brick tower. On the first floor of the tower was a narrow vaulted prison chamber . The gable of the tower is divided into a pointed arch frame by twin panels. On the gable is a monogram of Friedrich Wilhelm I with the year 1726. Previously there was only one passage through the Stettiner Tor, the second passage next to the tower was only added in 1935.

The Szczecin Gate was restored between 1995 and 1997 .
