history
On November 21, 1875, the Weißenburg Citizens' Association founded the public library , which moved into the current building of the technical college in 1880 , into the old Latin school in 1896 and into a former meat shop (Höllgasse 3) in 1899. In 1908 the library was moved again to the Old Latin School. In 1913 the library was renamed the Troeltsche Volksbibliothek . In 1925 the library moved to the Kleine Spital and in 1935, after being renamed the Municipal Public Library, to the house at Martin-Luther-Platz 7. After the Second World War , the library only had 500 volumes. In 1947 the move to the old town hall took place ; In 1951 the library moved to the New Town Hall . In 1954 the library was moved to the Kleine Spital again until it found its place in the Alte Post in 1966. From 1984 to 1998 the library was run by the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district . From 1999 to 2001 the Alte Post was renovated and the building was expanded, increasing the area by 700 square meters to a total of 1,000 square meters.
