The Alte Post is located in the old town of Weißenburg in Bavaria at Friedrich-Ebert-Straße 20, right next to the main building of the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district office . The building is registered under the monument number D-5-77-177-160 as an architectural monument in the Bavarian monument list.

The two-story representative corner building was built in 1906 as the Royal Bavarian Post Office . After the opening of the new post office in 1966 on Westliche Ringstrasse, today's Schulhausstrasse, it was converted into a public library as well as an office and residential building. In 1998 the city of Weißenburg acquired the building and had it renovated. In 2000, the extension was completed, in which the greater part of the Weißenburg City Library is located today . The district office's nature conservation department is on the second floor. The main portal with a front staircase is crowned by a pointed tent roof . The west wing has a curved gable and corner projections , while the north wing has a polygial corner tower with a dome . The outlines are made of stone .
