Trier Alleenring

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Trier Alleenring is an avenue ring in the Rhineland-Palatinate city of Trier on the Moselle .

It consists of the Südallee in the south of Trier, the Weimarer Allee and the Ostallee in the east of Trier, the Theodor-Heuss-Allee , the Nordallee and the Friedrich-Ebert-Allee in the north of Trier as well as the Katharinenufer , the Krahnenufer , the Johanniterufer and the St. Barbara Bank to the west.

The alley ring corresponds roughly to the course of the medieval city wall of Trier , which covered an area of around 1.38 km².

The city wall had eight city gates in 1861 :

  1. Bridge gate
  2. Zurlaubener or Katharinentor
  3. St. Martinstor
  4. Roman gate
  5. Mustor
  6. Weberbach Gate
  7. Neutor
  8. Barbel Gate

There was also a Roman city wall in ancient Augusta Treverorum about 6.4 km in length. In terms of area, Roman Trier was more than twice as large as medieval Trier. It extended above all over the areas of what is now Trier-Süd . The city gates of ancient Trier were the Porta Nigra , the Porta Alba , the Porta Media and the Porta Inclyta .
