Parcul Civic , (German: Bürgerpark , also city park ), is located in the center of Timișoara . It was created in 1971 and is the youngest park in the city. The park is located in the Cetate district , behind the Hotel Continental.
description
The park has an area of 76,000 square meters. It is located on the area where the Transylvanian barracks once stood. This was removed in the 1960s. The plan was to build a new city center in its place. However, the plan was dropped and laid out in the open space of the Parcul Civic. Between 1968 and 1971 the tallest building in Timișoara, the Hotel Continental, and a flower clock facing Strada Proclamația de la Timișoara, a landmark of the city, were built here. It is replanted twice a year. The park is crossed by the IC Brătianu Bulevardul , which divides it into two parts.
A remnant of the Transylvanian barracks is used as a second stage by the Timișoara National Theater.
