The Cathedral Park (Romanian: Parcul Catedralei ) is a park in the center of Timișoara . It is located behind the Romanian Orthodox Cathedral , across from the Central Park, and covers an area of ​​45,400 square meters.

Geographical location

The cathedral park is located in the Cetate district , behind the Romanian Orthodox Cathedral , between the Bega Canal , the Bulevardul Regele Ferdinand and the Bulevardul 16 Decembrie 1989 .

The cathedral park extends over an area of ​​45,400 square meters, 38,000 square meters of which are planted with trees, 2,900 square meters are laid out as avenues, the rest is green space.

The park was created in 1967 according to the plans of the architect Ştefan Iojică, at ​​the same time as the Alpinet Park on the opposite begaufer, in order to ensure a uniform design for the two begaufers. This included the design of the bank promenade, the creation of the steps that lead down to the Bega, the artesian wells, the lighting and the first plantings.

The park is home to 595 deciduous trees and 244 conifers . Yew trees , chestnuts , locust trees and plane trees , but also magnolias ( Magnolia kobus ) can be found here, as well as fir , pine , spruce , birch , elm , blood plum ( prunus cerasifera nigra ), willow , forsythia , maple , oak and lilac .
