description

Avenue of Personalities
Avenue of Personalities

The park was established on the site of the former military cemetery after the remains of the 8,000-9,000 dead had been reburied in the Heroes' Cemetery on Calea Lipovei. The park got the name of its founder and carried it into the 20th century. After the general's death, his life-size statue was placed in the middle of the park. During the First World War , however, this was destroyed by angry citizens. After the war, a clock was placed on the base of the statue. It was not until 1962 that the monument to the Romanian soldier took the place of the Scudier statue. During the Stalinist era the complex was called Parcul Stalin, but was renamed Parcul Central again after the death of Josef Stalin in 1953. The park now covers an area of 91,400 square meters.

Avenue of Personalities
