Stan Vidrighin

Stan Vidrighin (* 1876 in Rășinari , then in Sibiu County , Austria-Hungary ; † 1956 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian engineer and the first mayor of Timișoara after the annexation of the Banat to Romania (September 1, 1919 to April 30, 1921 and January 3, 1922 to August 31, 1922).

Life

The Lyceum visited Stan Vidrighin in Sibiu , then studied at the Technical University in Budapest and made 1900 its conclusion. After two years in the administration of Sopron , he won a competition for sewerage and drinking water supply for the city of Timisoara and was initially employed as an engineer at the city's technical office. After two years, he was promoted to chief engineer in the same office, where he initiated the project to sewer and supply the city with drinking water . In preparation for these two projects, he made several study trips to Dresden , Berlin , Hamburg , Cologne , Strasbourg , Karlsruhe and London .

In Timișoara

Stan Vidrighin was a great militant of the union of the Banat and Transylvania with Romania. On December 1, 1918, he was at the Grand National Assembly in Alba Iulia and shortly after the Banat was annexed to Romania on September 1, 1919, he was elected mayor of Timișoara. He held this office until April 30, 1921, to be re-elected a year later on January 3, 1922. This second term lasted until August 31, 1922.

During his tenure, the city's sewer system , the supply of drinking water , gas and electricity as well as public transport were redesigned.

School principal

Together with Professor Traian Lalescu , he was a founding member of the Polytechnic School in Timisoara , of which he was rector from 1921.

In Bucharest

In September 1923 he was transferred to Bucharest to manage the water supply and sewerage there. There he later became director of Poşta Română and then director of the Romanian state railway Căile Ferate Române . He died in 1956 at the age of 80.
