Tobias Balthasar Hold

Tobias Balthasar Hold (* around 1660 in Frankenhausen , Holy Roman Empire ; † April 17, 1721 in Timişoara , Habsburg Monarchy ) was the first German mayor of the city of Timișoara, which now belongs to Romania , between 1717 and 1721 .

Tobias Balthasar Hold was born in Frankenhausen around 1660 - the exact date of birth is unknown. it is also unknown in which Frankenhausen. Anton Petri vacillates between Frankenhausen in Hesse, Saxony, or Thuringia, while William O'Reilly speaks of Frankenhausen in Bavaria and Alex Leeb points out that a place called Frankenhausen in Bavaria does not exist.

First German mayor of Timisoara

On January 1, 1718, the first German magistrate was founded in Temeschburg; a “Raizian” magistrate already existed in the building where the Nikolaus Lenau Lyceum is located today .

Tobias Balthasar Hold, a former military doctor , came to Temeschburg in 1717 and was elected the city's first German mayor in October of the same year. On January 1, 1718 the ecclesiastical and shortly after the secular inauguration took place.

The rebuilding of the Temeschburg fortress, which had been destroyed by the war, began under Tobias Balthasar Hold . In 1720 he was elected mayor of the city a second time and held the office until his death.
