Josef Klapka
Josef Klapka , ( Hungarian Klapka József , * 1786 in Arad ; † May 12 , 1863 ibid) was a printer , journalist , publisher and mayor in the western Romanian city of Timișoara (then Timişoara ), as well as a member of the Hungarian Parliament .
Life
The printer and journalist Josef Klapka published several newspapers in Timisoara, including the Banat magazine for agriculture, trade, arts and crafts and the weekly Timisoara weekly paper (1840-1948, nine volumes).
Klapka's publications were largely committed to the nascent submersion program , which was supported by the Hungarian-friendly piarists who were appointed as censors . Klapka's employee was Johann Nepomuk Preyer , who later became mayor of the city.
Shortly before his election as mayor of Timisoara, the sponsor of the German city theater Klapka published the first two German-language theater newspapers in Southeast Europe : the notes and the continuation Thalia, which is completely preserved except for a single number . These publications convey a picture of the first consistent literary age in the Banat .
In 1815 Joseph Klapka opened the first lending library in what was then Hungary in Timisoara .
From 1819 to 1833 Klapka was appointed mayor of Timișoaras, and then as a member of the Hungarian Diet.
