The Stadtparksteg is an arch bridge in the area of the Vienna City Park and spans the Wien River . It connects the Vienna districts of Landstrasse and Innere Stadt and is only accessible to pedestrians and cyclists.
history
The first city park walkway was built in the early 1860s as part of the construction of the city park. For this purpose, the supporting structure of the five-year-old Karolinenbrücke , which was replaced by another bridge as a result of the razing of the Vienna city wall , was dismantled and reused at this location. At the end of the 1890s, adaptation work was necessary due to the regulation of the Vienna River. After the bridge was destroyed towards the end of the Second World War, there was only a temporary bridge at this point for a long time from 1945.
The city park footbridge in its current form was built in 1985–1987 by Waagner Biro AG. Hermann Czech acted as the architect, while Alfred Pauser was in charge of the structural planning . This widens in the middle of the sidewalk construction and can be used as a viewing point.
