City School (Weißenfels)
The city school is a listed building in the city of Weißenfels in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments it is listed as a monument under registration number 094 00604 . It also belongs to the Marienstraße monument area with registration number 094 00347.
history
The current building is a new building in the baroque style, which was built by the city architect Johann Christoph Schütze in 1718. The building, originally erected in 1553 in the Renaissance style, was destroyed by a fire in 1718, which also destroyed the town hall and the St. Marien church as well as other buildings on Marienstraße. The seat niche portal comes from a previous building from 1539, a Latin school built in the same place .
The building is still used today by the city administration.

There is a Latin inscription above the portal. The building is decorated with a variety of ornaments, such as tooth cut , acantus leaf , ivy, oak leaves, cassettes, rosettes , fern tendrils, Doric half-columns, rows of egg rods and pearl cords .
