The city traffic Detmold GmbH ( SVD ) is a transport company in the North Rhine-Westphalian district town of Detmold . SVD is a 100% subsidiary of the Detmold Gesellschaft für Beteiligungsmanagement und Controlling mbH (DetCon), which in turn is a 100% subsidiary of the city of Detmold.

The SVD is a traffic management company responsible for parking in Detmold and city traffic in Detmold.

Stadtbus Detmold GmbH, an amalgamation of the transport companies Karl Köhne Omnibusbetriebe GmbH from Extertal, Omnibusbetrieb Linke Lemgo GmbH from Lemgo and W. Wellhausen GmbH & Co KG from Lage, has been commissioned to carry out the city transport in Detmold .

The city traffic serves 232 stops in the urban area of Detmold and in the adjacent Hörste (city of Lage ) with its lines .

History and corporate structure

The SVD was founded in 1993 as a joint venture between Energie und Verkehr Detmold (EVD) (today Detmold Society for Participation Management and Controlling (DetCon)), the municipal investment company and Busverkehr Ostwestfalen GmbH (BVO). At that time, the city of Detmold set itself the goal of developing a new inner-city transport network. On May 29, 1994, line 701 between Berlebeck and Pivitsheide with midibuses was put into operation as the first line of a new city bus system .

The first motto with which the local transport company wanted to recruit passengers was “don't be amazed - take a ride”, which also alluded to the air-conditioned and, at the time, innovative low-floor buses . The current motto is "Just ride along".

Since the number of passengers rose sharply in a short period of time, it was decided as early as 1995 to expand the "Detmold City Bus" offer to include further inner-city routes. Today there is a city bus system with eight lines. In addition to the administration of the Detmold line buses, the SVD was assigned other tasks. The parking space management introduced in downtown Detmold is organized by the company. The aim is to provide a sufficient number of parking spaces, including through parking fees. The municipal parking garages Am Klinikum, Am Finanzamt, Lustgarten and Paulinenstraße are leased and managed by SVD.

The SVD now transports more than 5.5 million passengers a year. Around 6000 Detmolders have season tickets , which means that every ninth Detmolders hold a season ticket.

The city buses have been designed in a uniform design since the beginning , so that there is a high recognition value . In April 2007, the buses were redesigned, they now received conspicuous yellow stripes on the front and on the sides.

The city transport company put the city bus network out to tender across Europe in 2011 . As a result, there was a separation from BVO, the bus operator has been Stadtbus Detmold GmbH since January 2012 . This new company consists of a merger of Karl Köhne GmbH ( Verkehrsbetriebe Extertal GmbH ), Linke Lemgo GmbH and Reiseienst Wellhausen, Lage. With the takeover of the route, the bus fleet was modernized, and since then SVD has only used MAN Lion's City buses .
