City bus Detmold

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Detmold city bus serves local public transport in the district town of Detmold ( Lippe district , North Rhine-Westphalia ) with eight city bus routes . The client is Stadtverkehr Detmold GmbH (SVD). The lines were put out to tender across Europe. On January 1, 2012 there was a change of operator. The new operating company, a merger of Karl Köhne ( Verkehrsbetriebe Extertal GmbH ), Linke Lemgo GmbH, Travel Service Wellhausen, operates under the name Stadtbus Detmold GmbH . The previous operator was Busverkehr Ostwestfalen GmbH (BVO), which will operate the city bus again from August 1, 2019 through a new Europe-wide tender.

In connection with the gradual introduction of the system from 1994, the number of passengers increased more than sevenfold from approx. 600,000 (1993) to over 4.2 million. Around 6000 Detmolders have subscription season tickets . From a mathematical point of view and together with the student monthly tickets, every ninth inhabitant holds a season ticket.

history

Before the regional reform of 1970, the city of Detmold had around 30,000 inhabitants. All of the larger surrounding communities were then served by local urban transport. The most important mode of transport from 1900 until its shutdown in 1954 was the Detmold tram . A city and intercity bus network was created as a replacement, extending to Bielefeld , Rinteln , Bad Pyrmont and Paderborn . The Herford – Himmighausen railway line , built at the end of the 19th century, also supplied the neighboring communities of Remmighausen and Nienhagen, which are now part of the city, with local transport.

The incorporation of 25 neighboring communities enlarged the urban area to today approx. 129 km² with 73,000 inhabitants. Bus traffic in Detmold and the surrounding area was mainly operated by the Post and Railway , later by the "Bahnbus division" and, from the 1990s, by the regional Deutsche Bahn subsidiary Busverkehr Ostwestfalen GmbH (BVO). There was no distinction between city and regional traffic, the general end of the line was the Detmold train station . Due to the considerable increase in individual traffic and organizational deficiencies, the number of passengers fell considerably.

At the beginning of the 1990s, considerations arose to create a new inner-city transport network. In 1993, SVD was founded as a joint venture between Stadtwerke Detmold and Busverkehr Ostwestfalen GmbH (BVO). On May 29, 1994, line 701 between Berlebeck and Pivitsheide VL was put into operation as the first line of a new Detmold city bus network . The characteristics of the new offer compared to the previous and still existing bus routes were a more compact cycle with direct connections to the regional trains, a continuous route beyond the train station and clearer timetable displays.

The motto with which the new company wanted to recruit passengers was “don't be amazed - take a ride”, which was also intended to draw attention to the air-conditioned and, at the time, innovative low-floor buses . Since the number of passengers rose sharply in a short period of time, it was decided as early as 1995 to expand the Detmold city bus service to other inner-city routes. A city bus system with eight lines today was gradually built. At the same time, regional bus routes were shortened. The most recently introduced city bus routes (707/709) operate at the same intervals as regional lines.

concept

The city bus network is a star around the central transfer point Station Detmold arranged The main lines are cross-city lines and begin and do not end at the station, passengers for the second central point Rosental in the city center therefore do not change. There is also no rendezvous system in which all lines arrive at the same time and leave at the same time a short time later. This results in short intervals between the train station and the city center (on sections of the route far beyond) thanks to lines running in parallel. There are also no waiting times for connecting buses at a meeting point in the continuous lines. The environmental impact is also reduced, as the buses do not run one behind the other at the same time, but with a certain interval.

In order to increase the awareness of the system, large-scale vehicle advertising is dispensed with. The buses run through the city as a “white fleet” with a yellow line.

An essential part of the concept are inexpensive tariff offers and a clear tariff system . In addition, discounted season tickets (environmental subscription and 9 a.m. monthly ticket) and, since 2009, a special family ticket (“six-pass subscription” plus children's subscription) are available.

Some districts (e.g. Loßbruch , Diestelbruch , Hornoldendorf ) are only served by regional traffic. Regional buses are not integrated into the city network, in some areas there are parallel services (including line 390 in the direction of Pivitsheide - Augustdorf ).

Operating times

Detmold's city buses run Monday through Saturday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. They run on Sundays and public holidays from 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Call collective taxes (AST) are offered after the operating hours . These also serve remote parts of the city without a city bus connection. There is a surcharge to the normal rate.
