history

Painting in the prince's room

Detmold was served by long-distance trains Osnabrück / Bielefeld - Altenbeken - Warburg - Kassel - Munich until the 1970s and 1980s . The station forecourt was the transfer point for the Detmold tram until 1954 .

In 1985, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the German railways, an exhibition of old locomotives took place here, which attracted national attention.

After years of efforts and negotiations, the city of Detmold bought the reception building of the Detmold train station in summer 2006. In October 2006, the renovation of the building began, which was financed with urban development funds from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . The main reasons for the renovation were considerable deficiencies in the equipment and a lack of handicap friendliness . The station was often perceived as "uncomfortable" by citizens and travelers.

The reception building remained closed during the 14-month renovation. The inauguration of the renovated building took place in December 2007. In February 2008, the princely room of the station was monument of the month in Westphalia-Lippe .
