The dbb is one of the four vocational colleges in the Lippe district . The main building is located on Elisabethstrasse. 86 and the adjoining building at Bonhoefferstraße 7, 350 meters away. This is where the departments for medical and commercial apprenticeships and for the business school are located .

history

The roots of this vocational school lie in the Weerth craft school, which opened in 1808 . At that time there was only one course that was only run in the evening. In 1846 a trade school for prospective merchants was opened. However, the entry requirements could not be met by ordinary citizens. There were not only classes on Sunday and in the evening, but also school fees . Up until 1874, attendance at this trade school was still voluntary. After that, according to the trade regulations of the North German Federation, the educational establishment became a municipal compulsory trade school .

In 1902 the communities were obliged to set up advanced training schools. In addition, Sunday classes were completely abolished, but compulsory schooling for underage male citizens was also introduced. A year later, the opening of a separate building for the municipal trade school on Woldemarstrasse. In 1905 the commercial schooling was expanded due to the ever increasing interest. The government decided to set up a training school for commercial professions. This had its own school board of trustees. The lessons took place in personal union with the trade school.

In 1909, ascending commercial specialist classes were introduced. The subjects taught at that time were German, arithmetic, geography, commercial correspondence , calligraphy , bookkeeping and exchange theory . By 1914 the number of advanced training schools rose to 45 and reached its peak before the First World War heralded a step backwards. In 1919, the newly founded republic decided to introduce compulsory schooling for working young people up to the age of 18. Furthermore, school fees were abolished, so that the commercial and advanced training school was no longer a privilege for the rich. The teaching time has also been reduced to up to 30 hours per week. From 1920 to 1927 there was a clear trend towards modernization among vocational schools. For the first time girls were allowed to attend vocational school. The school also expanded its catchment area beyond the boundaries of the city of Detmold . In 1928 1020 pupils and 590 pupils were taught in Detmold. In addition, the one-year commercial school was introduced. After the National Socialist “seizure of power” in 1933, this commercial school was abolished and “non-Aryan” teachers were dismissed. (See: DC circuit ) 1938, as part of the kingdom of compulsory education law of the county support the Detmold schools. The commercial school was reintroduced in a two-year form, the number of students was just under 1700.

After the number of pupils increased dramatically from 1941 to 1944, there was an acute lack of space, so that additional locations had to be opened. From September 1944 to October 1945 classes had to be suspended due to the war. The school building was used as a reserve hospital before classes began again in October 1945.

The planning for the building on Bonhoefferstraße, which is still used today for school purposes, began in 1954. The plans included three new buildings and a sports hall. The first building was completed and used as early as 1955. The rest followed in 1963. In 1957 all vocational school classes were completely exempt from school fees, two years later the teachers became state officials . In 1963 all Detmold, Lageschen, Horner and Blomberger vocational schools were merged to form the vocational and vocational schools of the Detmold district .

A technical college for economics , whose graduates can acquire the technical college entrance qualification, was established in 1970. In the 1970s, more and more full-time vocational classes were set up: in 1975 the basic and vocational preparation year and in 1976 the one-year commercial college for high school graduates. Due to the rapidly increasing number of students, a building from the former technical college had to be rented. The commercial school was renamed the Dietrich Bonhoeffer School in 1987 , and the commercial school the Felix Fechenbach School . In 1991 today's main building was built on Elisabethstraße. . Here, the former was Friga - department store converted into a school building so that originated 53 additional classrooms and specialist rooms. The school administration was also housed there. A grammar school upper level leading to the Abitur was set up in 1995 and it moved into the new school building on Elisabethstrasse. In 1996 the cafeteria and the large parking lot were opened. On August 1, 1998, the Dietrich Bonhoeffer School was finally renamed the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Vocational College of the Lippe District . This was followed by the establishment of the first vocational school classes for IT professions .

In 2001 so-called laptop classes were set up. At the beginning of the school year in 2002, students were given the opportunity to register online for the vocational college for the first time . A virtual learning platform called MOODLE to promote self-directed learning in the technical school for business, in the vocational school and in the higher vocational school (higher commercial school and commercial high school) started in 2004.
