The city administration of Windhoek is both the name for the building of the town hall ( English City Hall ) as well as for the body of the city council ( English City Council ) of the Namibian capital Windhoek . It is also the seat of the mayor and the most important city administration building . It is in Windhoek-Central .
City council
The city of Windhoek is governed by a city council consisting of 15 council members, including the city council chairwoman and mayor Fransina Kahungu (since December 2019). In January 2020, the mayor moved her seat to the informal residential area of Babylon .
building
The Windhoek city administration includes the main building as well as numerous adjacent buildings. In addition, some administrative units are located in other parts of Windhoek. The then five-story main building was designed by Cosmos Stratakis in 1960 and inaugurated in November 1964 by Jack Louis Levinson , the city's mayor at the time. In 1990 the building was increased by three floors and in 2016 a five-story annex was added to the east.
The building is adorned with an oversized, modified Aloe littoralis , Windhoek's heraldic plant.
