Fransina Kahungu

Fransina Kahungu (* 1970 in Okapanda , South West Africa ) is a Namibian politician from SWAPO and a teacher . She has been the mayor of Windhoek , the capital of Namibia , since mid-December 2019 .

From 1998 she taught at a primary school in Windhoek , from 2005 she headed part of the school. In 2010 she was elected to the Windhoek City Council for the first time . From 2016 to 2017 she was Deputy Mayor of Windhoek; In 2017 she quit teaching to focus on her political career. In December 2019, she was surprisingly elected mayor. This followed a corresponding decision by the regional SWAPO leadership.
