John Meinert

John Christian Theodor Meinert (born December 9, 1886 in Hamburg , German Reich ; † November 10, 1946 in Windhoek , South West Africa , today Namibia ) was a German - Namibian ( Deutschnamibier ) businessman and mayor of the capital Windhoek from 1929 to 1938 .

Meinert emigrated to German South West Africa in 1903 . In 1912 he founded the John Meinert Printing printing company named after him . According to other sources, he worked for the Windhoek printing company from 1913 , which he bought and renamed in 1917. Meinert was also President of the Namibia Scientific Society between 1935 and 1937 (or 1936 to 1939) .

A street in Windhoek-Central is named after Meinert .
