Elaine Trepper

Elaine Trepper (* 1. December 1955 in South-West Africa , now Namibia ) is a Namibian SWAPO - politician .

Life

Elaine Trepper had been a teacher in Lüderitz since 1985 . She was involved in the anti-apartheid movement and joined the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) in 1991 . She was involved in the Namibia's liberation movement . After Namibia's independence in 1990, she became a member of the Namibia National Teachers Union (NANTU) and became a board member in 1998.

In 1991, Trepper was elected to SWAPO in Windhoek West and was responsible for her party's mobility and lobbying work. She became Branch Coordinator in 1994 and District Coordinator in 1998.

In 1998 she became a member of the City Council of Windhoek . In 1999 she was elected deputy mayor of Mathew Shikongo and chair of the city council. From 2000 to 2003 she was a member of the Windhoek Management Committee Council . From 2004 to 2008 she was deputy mayor again. In addition, she was involved at the national level for the development of the infrastructure as well as for social affairs and health in Namibia. In 2009 she was elected to the Board of Directors of the Management Committee .

Elaine Trepper was Mayor of Windhoek from December 2, 2010 (taking office January 17, 2011) until she was voted out on November 26, 2012 . She was the first colored mayor in Windhoek's history.
