Staglieno (in Ligurian : Stagén ) is a district of the northern Italian port city of Genoa . The district, which was autonomous until 1873 and was then annexed to the city of Genoa together with five other municipalities of the Lower Val Bisagno , belongs together with Molassana and Struppa to Munizip IV - Media Valbisagno . Staglieno consists of the two localities Parenzo and San Pantaleo and has a population of 21,560.

The center of Staglieno, located directly above Marassi and San Fruttuoso , consists of modern residential buildings on both sides of the Bisagno river . The quarter also includes several settlements on the right-hand hills of the valley. The steeper left half of the valley is less populated. With the exception of the settlements that arose in the last century in the area of Piazzale Parenzo and Via Tortona, there are no significant urban units. On the other hand, there are several factories and commercial buildings along the left bank road.

The territory of Staglieno also includes the valleys of some of the right tributaries of the Bisagno (such as the Veilino , Rio Cicala , Rio Trensasco and others) and is bounded in the upper part of the valley on the right side of the Bisagno by the 16th century city wall of Genoa. Furthermore, after passing Forte Sperone , it is limited by the ridge that separates Val Bisagno from Val Polcevera . The largest side valley is the valley of the Veilano torrent with a length of about 2.5 kilometers. The stream rises at Monte Diamante (with the fort of the same name ) and flows into the Bisagno near the monumental cemetery. Its own tributaries are the Briscata , Campobinello , Casamavari and Poggetti .

Today the name of the district often conjures up associations with the monumental cemetery , which was built in the first half of the 18th century at the mouth of the Veilino . The name originally comes from an ancient Genoese patrician family who lived in this area.
