The Stairway Glacier is a left tributary glacier of the Surprise Glacier on the Pacific coast of the US state of Alaska . The glacier got its name ( stairway English for "stairs") from participants in the Harriman-Alaska expedition in 1899.
geography
The nutrient area of the Stairway Glacier is in the Chugach Mountains at an altitude of 1,800 m . The 13 km long and in the lower section 850 m wide glacier flows in a right curve through the mountains and finally meets the Surprise Glacier, which after 3.5 km into Surprise Inlet , a small bay of the Harriman Fjord in the north of the Prinz -William-Sunds , flows out.
