Stanislas Touchet
Stanislas-Arthur-Xavier Cardinal Touchet (born November 13, 1848 in Soliers , France , † September 23, 1926 in Orléans ) was Bishop of Orléans .
Life
Stanislas-Arthur-Xavier Touchet, a nephew of Bishop Arthur-Xavier Ducellier and born like him in Soliers, studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the St. Sulpice Seminary in Paris . On June 13, 1872 he received the sacrament of ordination and was then installed as a pastor in the Archdiocese of Besançon . His uncle had been archbishop there since 1887.
In 1894 Pope Leo XIII appointed him . to the Bishop of Orléans. In 1922 Pope Pius XI took him . as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva in the college of cardinals . Stanislas-Arthur-Xavier Touchet died on September 23, 1926 in Orléans and was buried in the local cathedral .
Act
During his tenure as Bishop of Orléans Touchet dealt intensively with the processing of the trial against Joan of Arc . His work was instrumental in their beatification in 1909 by Pius X and the canonization in 1920 by Benedict XV. initiated and prepared. Touchet was also considered a strong opponent of the strict separation of church and state in France.
