Stanislaus Hafner

Stanislaus Hafner (born December 13, 1916 in Sankt Veit an der Glan , † December 9, 2006 in Graz ) was an Austrian Slavist .

Life

He studied Slavic Studies in Vienna , Graz and Belgrade and received his doctorate in Graz in 1941. He taught at the university there from 1963, became an associate professor in 1964 and a full professor of Slavic studies at the University of Graz from 1967 to 1987. In 1981 he became a corresponding member of the SAZU and a corresponding member of the Austrian and Serbian academies.

On October 10, 2001, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, M. Kučan, Hafner was awarded the Honorary Badge of Freedom of the Republic of Slovenia for his work and merits in scientific, educational and other work in the field of Slavic studies.
