In the Stapelager Gorge

The Stapelager Gorge is a gorge southwest of Hörste , a district of Lage in the Lippe district in North Rhine-Westphalia . It lies between the Hunneckenkammer with the upstream Riesenberg and the Stapelager Berg in the Teutoburg Forest . The Stapelager Gorge was an important pass in earlier times ; a long-distance path coming from the Senne led here over the Teutoburg Forest in the direction of Werre - Bega Valley to Schötmar . Today the Hermannsweg crosses the Stapelager Gorge.

In the Stapelager Gorge there are remains of ramparts that are under protection as a ground monument . They were first described in more detail by Ludwig Hölzermann in 1878 . The ramparts are interpreted today as the remnants of a road barrier and chronologically classified in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Age . Archaeological excavations on the ramparts have not yet taken place.
