Round wood is raw wood in a round and (in the longitudinal direction) undivided form, i.e. generally unprocessed logs from felled trees . In Austria it is also called Bloch . It falls into the rough wood category .

Terms

The term round wood was and is not used and defined clearly. As a rule, round wood is understood to be logs of felled trees that have not been processed further .

Not as roundwood are brushwood and floor wood ( tree stump and roots) and longitudinally split wood ( timber ) with a rectangular cross section ( beams , planks , boards, squared timber , etc.).

Colloquially , all sorts of cylindrical machined ( round peeled ) wooden rods are referred to as round wood , e.g. B. pegs , wooden poles , hop poles , round fence posts; see also construction timber . According to the RVR , however, further processed wood is neither raw nor round wood.

The term round wood says nothing about the later use, the length or the units of measure in which it is charged.

Relation to the raw wood

All round wood is part of the raw wood. Raw wood can contain elements that are not considered round wood, such as B. whole tops. Conversely, raw wood can also be processed round wood, e.g. B. wood chips or split logs are considered raw wood.

use

Removal of long timber

As a rule, round wood is the main and target product of forestry . It serves as a raw material for the timber industry . As sawlogs it is in the saw - and veneer industry to sawn timber (eg. Timber , boards, beams ) or veneer processed as industrial (round) wood in the wood products industry to wood materials such as chipboard , OSB , wood pulp or wood pulp or wood energy as Fuel used. When energy wood, the designations roundwood and Bloch timber for unclipped, gelängtes firewood ( thrashing , as long logs , or shorter in distinction to split logs ) were used.

Standards

Germany

The main standards are regulated in the framework agreement for the raw wood trade in Germany, which includes all raw wood .
