Staryj Ostropil (Ukrainian Старий Остропіль ; Russian Старый Острополь / Stary Ostropol ) is a place in the Khmelnitsky Oblast of Ukraine with about 1,350 inhabitants (2004). Staryj Ostropil is located on the Slutsch River and forms a district council with the village of Rajky (Райки).
history
Ostropil fortress was founded in 1576 . In the 17th and 18th centuries it was an important center of Jewish life, which was also reflected in Jewish folklore, see Herschele Ostropoler .
