Staryj Wowtschynez ( Ukrainian Старий Вовчинець ; Russian Старый Волчинец Stary Woltschinez , Romanian Volcineţ , German (until 1918) Wolczynetz ) is a village in the south of the Ukrainian Oblast Chernivtsi with about 2000 inhabitants (2001).
The village is located in northern Bukovina on the right bank of the Sereth near the Ukrainian- Romanian border. Staryj Vowtschynez is the administrative center of the district council of the same name within the Hlyboka district , to which the village of Bila Krynyzja with about 170 inhabitants also belongs.
The oblast capital Chernivtsi is 45 km north and the district center Hlyboka 14 km north of Staryj Vowtschynez.
