history

The history of Stauf is closely connected to the Stauf Castle located there . This castle was first mentioned in a document around 1012, the construction is estimated to be in the 10th century. In the Middle Ages, Stauf Castle was the seat of the Stauf rule , which owned numerous places in the area and on the Rhine. The Stauf rule fell into Nassau possession in the 14th century. The castle was destroyed in the Peasants' War and then used as a quarry, today only ruins of the castle are preserved.

In 1957 the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate built a children's rest home in the area of the outer bailey , which also served as emergency accommodation for emigrants from the Soviet Union during the fall of the Wall . After that, the building stood empty for years until it was sold in 2015. The buyers are, on the one hand, a newly established housing association that operates a multi-generation house here , and on the other hand, a hotel operator. In Talstrasse, the Evangelical Home Foundation Palatinate maintains 55 fully inpatient places for children and adolescents as well as 10 outpatient places for adolescents and a mother and child home with the Stauf Evangelical Children's and Youth Home . 20 children / young people are accommodated in Stauf itself. The other 35 places are provided in outdoor living groups in Dreisen, Westhofen, Rodenbach and Eisenberg.

Stauf remained an independent municipality until it was incorporated into the former municipality on April 1, 1962 (the town charter was only granted one year later) Eisenberg (Palatinate).

In addition to the home, tourism is an important source of income in Stauf today.
