Staufen is part of the municipality of Syrgenstein in the district of Dillingen an der Donau in Bavaria .

geography

The church village spreads one and a half kilometers west of Altenberg in an open valley basin. The dwarf stream rises in the village.

history

The oldest finds in the area date from the Middle Stone Age . Three row graves from the 7th century were also found.

Staufen was an aristocratic residence from an early age, as evidenced by a nobility grave from the 8th century in Martinskirche . The rule of Staufen, which belonged to the Lords of Staufen (they are not related to the noble family of the Staufers ), is first mentioned in 1130.

Staufen was first mentioned in 1130 as "Stouphen". With the division of the Duchy of Bavaria in 1505, the place came to the then founded Principality of Pfalz-Neuburg . Staufen formed a closed Hofmark of the Lords of Westerstetten and later of the Counts of Türheim .

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent community of Staufen with its districts of Alter Thurm and Viehmühle was incorporated into Syrgenstein. From November 29, 1978 to January 1, 1980, she was again self-employed for a short time.

religion

Staufen is the seat of an old parish to which Ballhausen belonged until 1966 .
