heavy siltation, diversion tunnels for bed load

The Solis reservoir is a reservoir on the Albula below Alvaschein in the canton of Graubünden . The lake with an area of 24 hectares belongs to the Central Grisons power plants . Because of the heavy siltation , the lake was provided with a diversion tunnel for bed load in 2012.

history

The reservoir was built from autumn 1982 to spring 1986 as a day storage facility for the Sils and Rothenbrunnen power plants . The cost was around CHF 25 million, and around 40 workers were employed on the construction site in two shifts. The dam replaced the old Nisellas river weir, which previously served as the inlet structure of the Rothenbrunnen power plant.

By 2012, about half of the storage volume of 4.1 million cubic meters went through silting lost because the Albula annually about 80 000 cubic meters, sediment deposits in the reservoir. Although around 25,000 m³ were dredged annually through the local gravel works, another solution had to be found because the bottom drains of the dam threatened to clog. For 37 million SFr. A 968 m long sediment discharge tunnel was built, which went into operation in 2012.
