Stefan-Peter Greiner

Stefan-Peter Greiner (* 1966 in Stuttgart ) is a German violin maker .

Live and act

At the age of 14, Stefan-Peter Greiner made his first violin . He completed an apprenticeship in Bonn . After his master's examination, he studied musicology, art history and phonetics at the University of Cologne . He got to know the physicist Heinrich Dünnwald with whom he examined more than 1000 violins acoustically between 1992 and 2010. They also performed the first computed tomography on a Stradivarius and analyzed the chemical components of the paint that Guarneri and Stradivarius had used in Cremona , for example . Her aim was to uncover the secret of euphoria and to make her findings usable for modern violin making. In 2003 Stefan-Peter Greiner received the Rheingau Music Prize .

Stefan-Peter Greiner works as a violin maker with a scientific approach and uses methods such as sound analysis, dendrochronology of spruce wood, computer tomography and 3D scanning of the instruments as well as spectroscopy to analyze paint. After having had his workshop in Bonn for a long time, he now works mainly in London-Hampstead .

Performers such as Kyung Wha Chung , Ivri Gitlis , Leonidas Kavakos , Bruno Monsaingeon , Igor Ozim , Christian Tetzlaff , Antje Weithaas (violin), Kim Kashkashian (viola), Frans Helmerson (cello) and musicians from renowned ensembles (e.g. Hagen Quartet , Mandelring Quartet ) and numerous concert masters are among his customers.

Over 150 CDs have been released so far, recorded on instruments by Stefan-Peter Greiner.
